The unmistakable Belfast City Hall opened its doors on the first of August 1906 following Queen Victoria granting Belfast the status of the city in 1888.
Designed by Alfred Brumwell Thomas and constructed in Portland stone, the incredible building cost £369,000 (around 128 million pounds today) and remains an extraordinary beacon of success and civic pride for Belfast.
The surrounding city center is home to the award-winning St George's Market, Grand Opera House, Europa Hotel and the cultural hub of Belfast in the Catedral Quarter, named after the beautiful St Anne’s Cathedral in the area, it is where to find to some of Belfast's finest pubs and restraunts.
Belfast is perhaps most famous for being the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, which famously and tradically struck an iceberg and sunk in 1912.
This legacy is recalled in the renovated dockyards' Titanic Quarter, which includes the Titanic Belfast, an aluminium-clad museum reminiscent of a ship's hull, as well as shipbuilder Harland & Wolff's Drawing Offices and the Titanic Slipways, which now host open-air concerts.
Few cities have been transformed as dramatically as Belfast – the bad old days of The Troubles are a thing of the past, and there is plenty to be discovered by those in the know.
If the walls of the cities could talk, they would tell us many stories, but in Belfast they do – and thousands of tourists come to visit the murals scattered around the city to learn about the history and culture of Belfast and Northern Ireland.
Parliament Buildings, commonly referred to as Stormont, is one of the best known and most striking pieces of architecture in Northern Ireland.
Built in 1921 at a cost of nearly £1.7 million, it was designed by architect Sir Arnold Thornely to house the newly formed Government of Northern Ireland and was officially opened on 16th November 1932 by the then Prince of Wales, on behalf of King George V.
